Shawn Nichols began his legal career in 2002 as a law clerk for the Second Judicial Circuit of South Dakota.  By choice Shawn has developed a diverse practice, responsive to the evolving needs of his clients. Most recently Shawn's practice has focused on commercial and complex litigation, consumer regulation and commercial transactions.  Shawn’s clients frequently praise him for his dedication to their problems, his creativity, and ability to serve as a “go-to” lawyer on a wide variety of legal issues.   In addition to providing careful advice and legal solutions, Shawn also has substantial experience assisting his clients in the courtroom when legal disputes cannot be resolved.  In addition to his business practice, Shawn has pressed his clients’ causes through more than 20 jury trials, 50 court trials, and more than a dozen appeals to the South Dakota Supreme Court and the Eighth Circuit.

Shawn has been recognized for his skill and experience by Super Lawyer, Martindale and Chambers USA—the three leaders in evaluating lawyers and recognizing superior legal skill.    

Shawn is also a member of ABOTA—a selective group of experienced trial lawyers.

Shawn is admitted to practice in all South Dakota state and federal courts (including bankruptcy court), Nebraska Federal Court, North Dakota Federal Court, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Shawn has also been admitted pro hac vice in Minnesota, Missouri and Iowa.

Shawn is a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls. He and his wife Gina have three children—Jocelyn, Noah and Finley. Outside of family and his legal career Shawn's hobbies include fishing, soccer and all things Nebraska Cornhuskers. Shawn is also an avid musician.
